“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” Acts 10:38 NKJV.
“But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.” I John 2:20 NKJV
Many people have asked and prayed for more anointing for many years. They have fasted and begged God for more anointing and have made little progress in their faith-life because they’re waiting for more anointing. Others have heard stories of ministers of God getting “more anointing” and have decided to go begging God for more.
Yet others refer to the story of Elijah and Elisha as the grounds for asking God for a double portion anointing. They do this not paying attention to the fact that we now leave in *the New Testament, established upon better promises. Hebrew 8:6.
Notice what our opening verses tell us about Jesus; “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” Acts 10:38 NKJV.
Jesus was anointed "with the Holy Ghost and Power". Instead of asking God for more anointing, first receive the Holy Spirit into your life.
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 NKJV.
When you receive the Holy Spirit, you receive Power! That’s what you need for your life and ministry, power! Jesus received power from God the Father after He was anointed with The Holy Ghost. Jesus instructed us to do the same.
Our opening verses also tell us that we already have an anointing from the Holy One. “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.” I John 2:20 NKJV.
The same chapter goes on to emphasise the same point. “But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.” I John 2:27 NKJV.
Asking God for more anointing is what untaught Christians do. It is possible for a Christian to have walked with God for many years and still be untaught in many things.
You may say, but I have received the Holy Spirit and I don’t experience that power. What can I do? Well, Timothy was in the same position, feeling powerless and afraid and Paul wrote him a letter telling him what to do next.
“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” II Timothy 1:6-7 NKJV. This is what you need to do next. After you’ve received the Holy Spirit, stir up that Gift of God within you! How, by praying in the Spirit, by singing...
“And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,” Ephesians 5:18-20 NKJV
Instead of begging God for more anointing, do what He has instructed you to do in His Word️. Be filled with the Spirit.
As you do so, you will see that the anointing will get stronger and you will find that you can do more!
Hallelujah!!!
